in: News

The Renault F1 team will become Lotus Renault GP, for the next Championship World Formula one 2011. The announcement comes as part of a strategic alliance between the two companies, meaning that there will be two teams named Lotus. After the return of the Lotus brand to Formula one in 2010, under license from group Lotus, this historic announcement marks the full return of the Lotus manufacturer to sport, with the full backing of Proton, said an announcement of the press. Group Lotus plc will become an important partner of Genii Capital at Lotus Renault GP capitalist, and the two parties have concluded a sponsorship agreement that will extend until the end of the 2017 season. We are delighted that now we can make public the news are going to be running as Lotus Renault GP in 2011, is a new challenge for us said Gerard Lopez, President of Renault F1 Team. It is very exciting to be able to begin a new era for the team, in collaboration with the Lotus Group, and we are going to continue enjoying of a strong relationship with Renault in the coming seasons.

It is a tribute to the excellent work of this year by the Enstone team for what we have been able to attract major sponsors and new investments for a very bright future. I can’t think on any platform better for the promotion of competition car brand and F1 is the pinnacle of uncovered wheels races, added the Chief Executive Officer of group Lotus Dany Bahar. We are very aware that there has been much controversy around the use of our brand in F1 and I am delighted to be able to formally clarify our position once for all: we are Lotus and back. The new Association has been possible thanks to the fact that Renault sold his remaining shares of the team to Genii capital. Group Lotus plc, will later become an important capitalist partner at Lotus Renault GP being co-owners along with Genii Capital. Renault, will meanwhile continue their support to the team with which he won in 2005 and 2006 World Championships, as a supplier of engines and engineering expertise. As a reflection of this, Lotus Renault GP will continue competing with the name of the chassis Renault and Renault will enjoy the exhibition of the brand in the colours of the car.

For 2011, the Lotus Renault GP cars will have a new interpretation of the emblematic colors black and gold that was used for the last time when Lotus and Renault joined in the 1980s. All this leaves the Team Lotus from Tony Fernandes, who also intends to use the famous colors of John Player in 2011, as well as the Renault engines, in a strange situation. The dispute between the Team Lotus and Lotus Group currently must be resolved in the Superior Court in London the coming year.
